The Owensboro Riverport Authority (Owensboro) was chartered in September 1966 by the City of Owensboro. The port began physical operations in June 1975 at its current facility located at Ohio River mile 759 on the left descending bank. The port’s property forms the northwestern boundary of the city’s limits. In 2006, Owensboro, which is Kentucky’s third largest city, had a population of 55,525 while Daviess County had a total population of 93,613.
